A Quiet Practice
A downloadable game
A little room to breathe.
Sit beneath timber eaves and make a garden at your own pace. Pull a rake through pale gravel, arrange weathered stones, and shape the ground around them. Let the trees move in the breeze.
No score. No timer. No finish line.
Your own small landscape
- Rake flowing grooves; raise, press, push and smooth the sand.
- Place, move, rotate and resize four sculptural stone forms.
- Explore four seasonal palettes and three lighting settings.
- Watch the breeze through the trees, with optional wind and summer cicada sounds.
- Save your arrangement in your browser, undo changes, or clear the garden and begin again.
- Hide the tools and stay awhile beneath the eaves.
What you receive
A complete offline browser edition and a bonus Windows wallpaper package for Lively Wallpaper. Extract the download, then open index.html in Chrome or Edge. No server, installation or account is needed to play.
The wallpaper requires Lively Wallpaper, available separately. It is silent and uses its own garden, separate from your saved arrangement.
Before you begin
Designed for a desktop computer with a mouse and keyboard. A current browser with WebGL and hardware acceleration is required. Performance depends on your graphics hardware. Saves are stored in your browser; keep the same folder location and avoid clearing browser data if you want to retain them.
This release contains the interactive Three.js garden. The promotional film includes directed arrangements, weather effects and additional nature recordings created for the film.
Created by Richard Qian Li. An independent work inspired by Japanese dry landscape gardens.
